MSU to offer BE in aerospace engineering this year
Vadodara: The decks have been cleared for a new course, a BE in aerospace engineering, at MS University's Faculty of Technology and Engineering (FTE).
The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the apex body for technical education in the country, has approved the new course. The proposal to offer a self-financed BE mechanical engineering course was also cleared by the AICTE.
TOI reported in Feb that MSU had submitted proposals to AICTE for the BE in aerospace engineering course and sought permission to offer additional seats on a self-financed basis for the BE in mechanical engineering.
"These proposals have been approved by AICTE. Our faculty will introduce the new course from the 2025-26 academic year with the AICTE-approved intake of 30 seats," MSU's in-charge vice-chancellor and FTE dean Professor Dhanesh Patel told TOI.
"Approval from AICTE enables us to introduce the highly specialized and future-oriented programme in aerospace engineering. This is a historic moment for the university and a proud development for the academic landscape of Vadodara and Gujarat," he said. He added that in alignment with the govt of India's ‘Make in India' initiative, which promotes indigenous aircraft design and manufacturing, this course will equip students with technical knowledge and practical training relevant to the rapidly evolving aerospace sector.
The aerospace engineering programme will open promising career pathways for students in Vadodara, Gujarat and beyond, in areas such as aircraft design, defence technology, aviation systems and space research. "It will reduce the need for students to seek such niche education in metropolitan cities, offering access to cutting-edge engineering education in Gujarat itself," he said.
"In addition to the existing govt-aided AICTE-approved intake of 90 seats in the BE in mechanical engineering programme, our faculty will also offer 60 seats in the self-financed mode as approved by AICTE," he said.
Patel added that intake for the BE programme for working professionals was also approved by AICTE for civil, mechanical and electrical engineering courses.
